What's the difference between trisprintec and ortho tri cyclen?
Q. I was taking tri sprintec for a while and it cleared up my acne very nicely but it was making me sick when I ate certain foods and had alcohol. I stopped taking it and my skin broke out worse than it was before! Now i've been taking ortho tri cyclen low for about 3 weeks and my acne is the worst its ever been! What should I do? Is it worth it to try accutane?

A. ortho tri cyclen is a low dose of hormones, which is most probably why your acne has got worse,i suggest trying marvelon, its a combined pill.i used this for 3 months and had no yucky side effects like on other pills and my skin was great, boobs also went up a cup size lol it was really good for me! because of high blood pressure i went on to cerazette, its a mini pill so you dont get a period,my skin also improved on that!! its worth trying a few different pills,it took me a while to find one that suited me! goodluck x

How to use Ortho Tri Cyclen? When do I start taking the pills?
Q. I just got my first pack of Ortho Tri Cyclen. I'm not on my period right now. I'm not sure when to start taking the pills. When do I take the green ones? I'm very confused. I need some detailed instructions please
Asked by Frakin BSG Fan - Mon Mar 10 22:09:17 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You are supposed to take the first white pill on the sunday after you start your period. If your period begins on sunday, take it that day. After you finish your white pills, begin the light blue ones. After you finish the light blue ones, start the dark blue ones. After you finish the dark blue ones, start the green ones. Eventually, you should be on a set cycle and your period should start the day you start the green pills or the day after. Then repeat with your next set.

Can taking Prenatal Vitamins with Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo Help Stabilize Hair Loss?
Q. I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for a year and been losing a good amount of hair ever since I started taking it. My doctor is switching me to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, so I hope that might help. I've had many people (including one doctor) recommend taking prenatal vitamins, saying it'll help. It's to the point where I really don't want to be on birth control anymore. What do you guys think?
Asked by Clusterfunky - Thu Feb 5 17:02:16 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The reason for taking vitamins while on birth control is because oral contraceptives deplete many important nutrients. Some of the nutrients depleted by oral contraceptives are extremely important for healthy hair growth. This includes zinc, B vitamins, vitamin c, selenium, magnesium and more. Vitamin depletion is not the only reason that oral contraceptives cause hair loss in some people. It is also due to the hormonal manipulation and the subsequent physiological changes. One has no way of predicting how the pill will effect them until it is in the system for several months. Sometimes the pill will help a hair loss problem and other times it will cause a hair loss problem. Unfortunately when birth control starts the hair loss process,… [cont.]

Is Ortho Tri-Cyclen LO ok for breastfeeding moms?
Q. I am breastfeeding my 7 week old daughter exclusively and at my 6 week checkup my ob prescribed ortho tri-cyclen LO. It contains a low dose of estrogen and the pamphlet warns that it might affect the quality and quantity of breastmilk. I've had an oversupply of milk from the beginning but I'm still nervous about taking it. Should I ask for a progestrin only pill? My period also returned right away so I am also concerned if a progestrin only pill will be effective enough.
Asked by subwife8176 - Thu Aug 24 20:07:18 2006 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If it contains estrogen, then I would NOT take it! Does your OB know you are breastfeeding? It's recommended that any estrogen-containing contraceptive be AVOIDED until baby is at least six months old AND after baby is well-established on solid foods. You REALLY should be on a progestin only pill if you choose to use hormonal birth control. Examples of progestin-only birth control methods: the progestin-only pill (POP) also called the "mini-pill" (Micronor, Errin, Nor-QD, Ovrette, Microval, etc) the birth control injection (Depo Provera) the progesterone-releasing IUD (Mirena, Progestasert) the birth control implant (Norplant, Implanon). For MOST mothers, progestin-only forms of contraception do not cause problems with milk… [cont.]

Is there an alternative to Ortho Tri Cyclen because of depression?
Q. I've been on Ortho Tri Cyclen for years and in the past months its been making me depressed, whenever I start a new pack, like crying for no reason. I was wondering if anyone who has had the same symptoms was put on something else that improved the situation? Are monophasic pills less likely to cause depression?
Asked by sandychick - Wed Dec 24 00:20:29 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Monophasic are MORE likely to cause this. You could try a different brand or try Yaz, it removes the depression symptom away from severe PMS and all throughout your cycle.

what is the generic birth control pill equivalent to ortho tri cyclen l?
Q. My insurance barely covers any of the cost of this prescription and its $50 a month (for 28 pills) it's a bit ridiculous, I'm only 20. But I'm really happy with ortho tri-cyclen lo. Please help, thanks!

A. There is no generic for ortho tri-cyclen lo, but there is a generic for regular ortho tri-cyclen. Call your prescriber, and ask for a prescription for that medication. Cash price for generic Ortho tri-cyclen range from $9-$28.

When does ortho tri cyclen lo start clearing up your skin?
Q. I'm taking birth control (ortho tri cyclen lo) and am wondering when effects usually start taking place. I'm only on my 3rd day but am anxious for clearer skin/bigger boobs...haha any help is greatly appreciated! thanks.
Asked by music123 - Wed Jan 14 12:56:02 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I was on it for three months. I did get bigger boobs! But, that was the only positive thing I had on it. My acne got worse, unfortunately during the 2nd month. I didn't have too bad acne to begin with, and the first month pretty much all of it went away, but the second month, I started getting zits like under my skin. I couldn't pop them, but they were red and big. I got a lot of them under my chin and on my forehead. It wasn't fun. Turns out, it was too low dose of hormones for me. But, that's just my experience. My friend, who was also on it, had no problems with it. Her skin turn flawless and her boobs grew bigger than mine! (And I grew a full cup size!). So, just wait it out. If it clears your acne, that's great, but if it doesn't,… [cont.]

Is it okay not to take the sugar pills that come with Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo?
Q. I usually get I guess the generic brand and it doesn't start off with the sugar pills. This month I got the real Ortho Tri Cyclen and it started with the sugar pills. I reversed the order and started with the ones right after the sugar pills. I totally messed up my period and got my period 5 days sooner than I would've normally gotten it had I been taking the generic brand. I'll be starting the sugar pills tomorrow. Is it okay not to take them since I already got my period?

is there a birth control similar to ortho tri cyclen lo?
Q. I absolutley LOVE Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo! However, it is almost $70 with my insurance now :( I have tried other "lo dose" BC pills like Junel FE, and I hate hate hate them! I need a pill that is pretty much the exact same as Ortho Lo. Does anyone have any reccomendations? A generic that costs usually under $20 with most insurances is what I am looking for. Thanks!

Are there risks of taking the allergy medicine Singulair and the birth control pill Ortho Tri-Cyclen together?
Q. I'm currently taking the allergy medicine Singulair. I'm thinking about starting the the birth control pill Ortho Tri-Cyclen (NOT Ortho Tri-Cyclen-Lo) sometime next week. I would take both the pills at night. Singulair I am supposed to take at night. And the birth control pill I prefer to take at night. Are there any possible side effects of taking the two medicines together everyday?

A. It should be fine to take Singulair and Ortho-Tri-Cyclen together. There are no known interactions between them. However, it does not mean that no interactions exist, if you experience any odd symptoms please see your doctor.

what is the difference between Ortho Tri Cyclen & Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo?
Q. I'm 25. Never been on any type of birth control before (I hate taking pills). Just started taking Ortho Tri Cyclen to avoid getting pregnant. Just curious whats the difference between Ortho Tri Cyclen and Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. Also, I know everyone is different but feel free to share your experience with birth control pills. I've read a lot about possible weight fluctuations, ance and changes in mood.

A. Lo is just a lower dose of the hormones. It doesn't make your body as squirrely as the regular dose does. However, I still a little gained weight and felt tired all the time.

Q. I ran out of insurance under my dad's plan, and recently purchased insurance through the university I'm attending. I'm 22 years old, and have been on Yasmin for 3 months and have been doing well, but Student Health only gives out Ortho Tri Cyclen. I've only known 2 people to be on it, and I've only heard bad things. Any thoughts?

Ortho tri cyclen lo question: did i start correctly? when will i get my period?
Q. i started ortho tri cyclen lo a weekd AFTER my period ENDED (my clinician at planned parenthood said it was okay to start the pill at any day). Is it true? Did I start it correctly? What if I did not start correctly, is it okay? I am almost done w/ the pack and I am going to take my 2nd placebo (dark green) pill tonight, when do most people get their periods (i know that it is different for each person)
Asked by eternity - Mon Sep 22 18:57:46 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. don't worry there really isn't a correct day or time to start it. plan parenthood was right you can start it when ever you want. usually the package will say to start the day you get your period or the sunday after you start your period. but that is really just so its easier to recall when you should take the pills. the packages also usually come with a sticker packet so that instead of seeing sunday-saturday along the top you can make it monday-sunday, tuesday-monday and so on so you can start when ever you want. i started first day of my period just cuz. and my doctor has said you really can start it what ever day you wish. most people start their period 2-3 days after starting the placebo week. but don't worry if it doesn't come until… [cont.]

stopped taking ortho tri cyclen and now we've decided to try for a baby?
Q. I've been taking ortho tri cyclen for a little over a month and my husband and I have decided to try to have a baby. What are my chances and how long will it take after only taking the pill for a short period of time?
Asked by terrijones22 - Mon Mar 30 09:07:48 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Every woman is different. For some woman (including myself) after stopping a pill they actually become more fertile. For other woman it can take a long time to get pregnant after stopping the pill. I got pregnant a month and a half after stopping orthtricyclen and I was one it for 7 years. All you can do is try, and remember it is not always a fast process. Even if you have sex on the correct day, statistics say you only have a 25% chance of conceiving.
