A. You can buy a Physician Desk reference or PDR. it describes every pill or meds. Enumerates their indications, dosage, side effects or adverse effects. Doctors by virtue of their license prescribe the necessary medications. The duty of the pharmacist ( also licensed ) is to fill up the prescriptions. Both of them should work with an agenda that your best interest and welfare is considered. Don't worry, when there is a question of a drug, the Pharmacist usually tries to contact your doctor for clarification. They are more familiar on any side effects. Remember, both have licenses to protect. Go to the links below for online drug resources: if you're not sure about any drugs or even your diagnosis,;or issues… [cont.]

Are there drugs/medications that treat depression/anxiety/bipola r that DON'T cause weight gain?
Q. I have tried so many anti-depressant medications in the past, and they all seem to contribute to excessive weight gain, which is so harmful and depressing as well. Are there any that don't?
Asked by MBA Grad Student - Thu Feb 15 14:41:24 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Wrong, Zyprexa causes SEVERE weight gain and is the drug company that is being sued because people have gotten Type 2 diabetes as result. Lamictal is supposed to be weight-neutral, as is Geodon and Abilify. Topomax is also supposed to be weight-neutral or make you lose weight, BUT it is not prescribed as a first-line drug because it is not as strong as a mood stabilizer as the others. Most people are prescribed Topomax along with other drugs. Unfortunately, most others will cause weight gain.

A. The testing is specific to the company and they may be testing for specific drugs, cocaine, mary-jane, the heavy narcotics only. The more drugs that they test for the more expesive the drug test for the company. I would not worry to much about this, if you have the scripts and the logical reasoning for taking them then you are ok, but you seem smart enough to already realize this.

A. Zantac is available over the counter, however the only strength available is 75mgs. Since many users need 300mgs this can be very expensive indeed. Roaccutane is available only on a prescription issued by a specialist secondary care dermatologist, i.e. even GPs cannot issue prescriptions for this drug,

Q. The effects of alcohol, street drugs, and over the counter medications during pregnancy?
Asked by lil-rainbow - Mon Mar 26 16:08:54 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are too many effects within each of the categories. First of all: Virtually all illegal drugs, such as heroin and cocaine, pose dangers to a pregnant woman. Legal substances, such as alcohol and tobacco, are also dangerous, and even medical drugs, both prescription and over-the-counter, can be harmful. Alcohol is one of the most dangerous drugs for pregnant women, especially in the early weeks. In the mother s body, alcohol breaks down chemically to a cell-damaging compound that is readily absorbed by the fetus. Heavy drinking during early pregnancy greatly increases the risk of a cluster of birth defects known as fetal alcohol syndrome. This cluster includes a small skull (microcephaly), abnormal facial features, and heart… [cont.]

Why do people treat OTC drugs and herbal medicine differently than prescription medications?
Q. Medicinal substances, whether they are prescription meds, OTC drugs, or herbal formulas, impact the body's physiology. Why would a person take a medicinal substance without knowing if it is right for them and their health problem? Why do people assume that if a little works well then a lot will work great? Why would a person take any medicinal substance without consulting a certified professional first? *OTC - Over the Counter* Medicinal substances, whether they are prescription meds, OTC drugs, or herbal formulas, impact the body's physiology. Asked by Curious George, C.Ac - Fri Feb 2 13:49:34 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I beliieve people think that, if it wasn't necessary for a doctor to prescribe a medication, then it must be safer to use than prescription medications. Of course, they forget that OTC drugs that are commonly used today were once, themselves, prescription drugs, and that some pharmaceuticals are made from plants. So, it is out of ignorance that people think OTCs and herbs should be treated as "safe" to do what you please with them. (If anyone else is reading this, please note that it is possible to overdose on OTCs, so it is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions on the label--unless prescribed otherwise by a medical doctor.)

Are medications considered GATEWAY DRUGS?
Q. Kids popping pills for being "hyber" or having "ADD" gets them used to taking pills. "Pills make me normal" "Medication makes me act normal". Popping one pill is as easy as the next. Many kids now get high off pill mixes instead of other drugs, but will undoubdetly get a taste for a high off of them. So ARE these pills considered a gateway drug? *excuse the typos
Asked by vote_usa_first - Mon Dec 10 13:45:21 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I had to tell a social worker this once. We are giving kids the impression that drug cocktails will sove every problem and just make you feel good! Sometimes meds may be necessary for a kid, but I believe that most of the time they are not. Even when they are necessary it should be the lowest possible dose. We have gone to the extremes with pushing drugs as much as possible just because they are legal, and our society is paying price with more and more young adults among us, including pregnant ones, who think that the only way to gjo through life is by putting more and more substances into your body.
