What is the difference between ordinal data and interval data?
Q. The book says that ordinal can be used to rank or order individuals or groups, but it can NOT be used to determine how much of a difference exists between individuals. It gives the examples of percentile rankings on standardized tests and place finishes in a race. I don't understand why these numbers can not be used to determine the difference between individuals. Isn't the percentile ranking and place finish in a race used exactly for the purpose of comparing one performance against another? If someone finished 3rd in a race, and someone else finished 8th, the difference in their places is 5. It says you CAN use interval numbers to determine differences between individuals based on some trait or characteristic. Interval numbers are… [cont.]

A. Ordinal data just tells you the order of something. i.e. think of a 100m race. 1st place might take 10 secs, 2nd might be 10.5 secs and 3rd could be 11.09 secs. The interval times between them are not fixed. Ordinal data just provides the position of where they came. Interval data provides information which is more quantative. On the temperature scale you mention, 10 degrees Farenheit and say 11 degrees Farenheit - the difference is 1 degree... the interval between each is the same - the scale is uniform!! Ordinal - scale not uniform Interval - scale is uniform

What difference would it make if i increased my box size?
Q. I have two audiobahn AW122N's with an amplifier giving each of them 400 rms. Each subwoofer has approximately 1.3 cubic feet. I want to increase the cubic feet for each sub so that each one gets 2 cubic feet. The manufacturer says that is the maximum for those subs. So what would the difference be is i increased the box size. What difference will it make on the bass and will it make a difference with how much power the subs can handle. Please give as much deatail as u can please.

A. Depending on your subwoofers, i'd keep that size. If you are running on the high end of the power range for your subwoofers, use the smallest box reccommended. If you're on the low end for the subs, use a larger box. Larger boxs are recommended for less power, however if you have alot of power in a large box, you will find that you will turn up your stereo and slam your speaker right to the chassis and make a verrryy bad sound. Been there done that, trust me. I'd stick with what you have, thats the size that i have always had for my 12s and it works great. The theory behind has to do with how easily air can be compressed. Lots more air, easier to compress, allowing more subwoofer throw with less power. Less air, less… [cont.]

How much difference would an hour long walk a day do in helping me become healthier?
Q. If I were to walk for one hour every day at a moderate to brisk pace, how much of a difference in my overall health and fitness would that make. Currently, I hardly get any exercise, and I am 180 lbs at age 17 and 5'5". How much of a difference would just walking make as far as losing weight and becoming healthier? What would the walking make a difference in? Weight? Muscle tone? Skin? Hair? Thanks for the help!
Asked by signs_of_poetry - Fri Dec 5 17:47:36 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. All of the above, to be honest! Briskly walking increases the exercise you're getting, so you're going to lose weight - maybe slowly, but you will - and gain tone in muscle. This muscle won't just be in your legs, either, but also your abs and butt. The extra flow of blood will give your skin a 'glowing, healthy' appearance, and keep your nails and hair healthier and more lively. You'll also have more energy during the day, stave off any depression you might be feeling, and feel better about yourself in general. Overall? There's really no reason NOT to!

What is the difference between a 10w guitar amp and a 15w guitar amp?

A. the difference between a 10 and 15 watt solid state amp will be barely noticeable. at those wattage levels manufactures really don't put much effort in making the best amp possible. that is unless your buying a tube amp which is a whole other issue. buy the amp that you think sounds best, ignore the logo and get what sounds best. even at 10 watts with a good speaker your guitar can and will be more than loud enough. if you need it for a band situation than you'll probably need 50+ watts. bottom-line the difference in watts is for one reason to get more clean headroom. a 50 watt amp will only be a little louder than a 15 watt amp. beginning guitarists always think that bigger and louder is better. better tone is always better.

What is the difference between the cash basis of accounting and the accrual basisof accounting?
Q. What is the difference between the cash basis of accounting and the accrual basisof accounting? Which one (cash basis or accrual basis) would you select for a company that has inventory? Why? Does the size of the company make a difference in which basis cash or accrual is used? Explain how it makes a difference. What would be the advantages and disadvantages of using one basis of accounting over the other?

A. In the cash basis actual receipt or payment of cash ( cash includes cheque) is accounted. Under the accrual method irrespective of the movement of cash, ( receipt / payment ) the Transaction is accounted on the due date. For example If Rent is not paid on the last day of the month, it is accounted by debiting Rent a/c crediting Accounts payable. As the inventory is already received and payment is not made, it is appropriate to follow the accrual method. The accrual method is good for the company having inventory. Yes For a bigger company it is advisable to follow the accrual system, otherwise it is very difficult to assess the actual financial position of the Company. By following the accrual system the correct profit and loss, [cont.]

Q. What s the difference between good fats and bad fats? I thought there was no difference. But what exactly is the difference? And what foods have good fats?
Asked by Citiscloset - Thu Apr 24 12:30:37 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The "good fats" are simply the unsaturated fats, found in foods like fish, sunflower oil, fish oil, etc. The "bad fats" are the saturated fats, found in various oils, as well as trans fats, found in most commercially supplied, packaged foods (like fast food). I placed the quotations around the good and bad fat to isolate the colloquial meaning of them, both types of fats can be both good and bad.

What is the difference between care and pity?
Q. The problem with this question is that there is no freely available solid information on the difference between the two words (I suppose one could relate this to defining love). Even so, when certain things happen in life, one begins to realize that there are times when on comprehends there is a difference between the two words. Such a thing had recently happened to me. Also, people constantly have the tendency to mix pity with care. I wish only for a clear explanation for this specific question--What is the difference between care and pity? Please and Thank You!
Asked by Cookie - Mon May 18 17:29:42 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Pity is often condescending while care is closer to experiencing empathy. That means a person who cares actually feels with the person and does something about the distress as well. When a person experiences pity he/she looks at the person's problem as external to himself and that it's not his/her problem.

A. With small models you get 3x or 5x zoom, tops. With bigger ones you get up to 12x zoom, where the wide end is the same but you can zoom in much, much more. The larger models are generally also equipped with better lenses, which translates into better looking prints. Other features can be identical. (Larger models often have a lot of bells and whistles, but so do many compact cameras.) Digital SLR cameras are the best in terms of lenses (sold separately), and they offer much better responsiveness, better low light performance, and a bunch of other advantages.

A. The best commentary I have seen on this question was written by David Sedaris in his book "Naked". He wrote. Acting is different than posing or pretending. When done with precision, it bears a striking resemblance to lying. Stripped of the costumes and grand gestures, it presents itself as an unquestionable truth. I see the difference between the two this way: As human beings we lie to one another all the time for many different reasons. If we didn't, human relationships would simply. Here is an example of what I mean. If you received in the mail, a horrible little knick-knack as a gift from a displaced relative and you hate it. You would most likely shove it back in the box and put it out of sight until that relative came by for a visit. [cont.]

Q. My grandma insists that there is a difference between hydrocodo and hydrocodone. And I told her that there isn't a difference. Much less such thing as hydrocodo !! Anyways, if there is a difference, please tell me so my grandma would quit worrying.

What is the difference between little cigars (that look like cigarettes) and regular cigarettes?
Q. I want to know what the difference is between little cigars that have a filter and look just like regular cigarettes except for the paper being brown. Some examples of brands I'm talking about are: Supreme, Millenium, Clipper Little cigars. Is there a difference in the amounts of tar and nicotine or the tobacco itself? Or is the difference only the color of the paper used to make them? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

A. It`s all in the taste, my dear ... all in the taste. A fine wine-dipped Cuban cigar has flavor and aroma, and a real pleasure to smoke, but a cigarello is nothing more then a glorified cigarette.

What is the difference in between brands of pistons?
Q. I am restoring a 68 firebird HO 455. I would like to know what is the difference in piston brands. Example Wiseco, SLP pistons, Keith Black pistons, Federal Mogul, Speed Pro, JE , and ROSS pistons. Obviously price is a difference but is the quality that much of a difference?

A. Very much so. Pistons are as different as speakers. They all perform the same job but each one specializes in different aspects of performance. I have used Keith Black Hypereutectic Pistons in the past. These are a good choice and very cost efficient. Forged Aluminum pistons are a much better choice for performance. Your best bet is to visit your local machine shop and let them know exactly what you are looking for, for your specific application. I have received a ton of help from Summit Racing. Their staff is all *very* knowledgeable and their prices are great! You can visit them here:

What is the difference between stainlees steel and stainless look on appliances?
Q. We are getting ready to buy a new refrigerator and have narrowed our choice down to a few. There is a 100 price difference between one that is stainless steel and one that is stainless look. What is the difference? In the store we cannot tell any difference. Is it worth the extra money to go full stainless???

A. The stainless look gets you the look of stainless steel without the price and extra care of the real thing. I'd go with the stainless look! Real stainless steel is going to show fingerprints badly and needs to be cleaned with special cleaners weekly to keep that shine...
